Dear Player,
Thank you for contacting World of Tanks Support. It sounds like you're having some rough games.
We're always happy to hear from our awesome community!
We're pleased you've chimed in with your thoughts on the match making system. Our developers sift through our tickets, and from there, derive inspiration to improve the game.
The matchmaker is constantly inspected and is currently operating as intended. Please understand, that the matchmaker can only work with the resources (players/tanks in the queue) available to it.
That being said, we'll give you a slight glimpse of how it works. This is a simplified version and only an example, but hopefully it'll shed a bit of light on how you can better analyze the match ups:
Each tank on either team is assigned a point value. These point values add up to be nearly equivalent in every case for each team. The point value for any tank is based on a number of factors, and not just tier or type.
As you may know, light tanks only exist up to tier 5, TDs up to tier 9, SPGs up to tier 8, mediums to tier 9, and heavies can achieve tier 10. In each class of tanks other than heavy (we'll use that as a sort of baseline for our example here), especially the ones at their maximum tier, are typically rated slightly higher than a similarly tiered tank. It is entirely possible that a tier 3 TD has a greater point value assigned to it than a tier 4 medium.
Keeping all that in mind, we also attempt to match in a bell curve. A few on the low end of the point value and a few on the high end, and the middle is where the teams are most evenly balanced. It's important to avoid comparing the top of the list with the bottom.
Folks seem to have a habit of doing this, and poisoning the well by shouting the match up is unfair, when, in truth, the guys at the bottom of the other team are who they should be looking to engage with. There is never a useless participant. Modules can be damaged, crew can be knocked out, even if no damage was done. The important thing is to know who your optimal targets are, and know who to avoid.
On top of this, you must also consider that the first few battles with a new tank are matched slightly lower than normal. This is so you have time to 'break in' your new tank. This effects the matchmaking system, and, as you might expect, the subjective performance of that tank will drop in the eyes of the player when they are thrown back into the standard match pool.
Again, this is only a rough outline of just a portion of what goes into the matchmaking process. Rest assured, we enjoy evenly matched games as much as the next tanker.
Everyone in the office, without exception, plays the game, and enjoys playing the game. If there were a systematic problem we'd be the first to jump on the developers for a fix or improvement.
The best advice for every player is to coordinate with team mates, 3 tanks working together will beat 3 tanks working independently every time. This is truly the deciding factor when it comes to comparing one team to another.
With all this said, we are currently working on changes for the upcoming patch concerning the matchmaker. We're pretty excited about it, too! Sadly at this time we do not have a specific release date, but you can always keep your eyes peeled for developments here: http://worldoftanks.com/en/development
Please feel free to contact us with any future concerns you may have, and in the meantime, happy tanking!
Best Regards, Valerie Johnson | |
